Hiru TV is considered to be the first Digital Ready/HD Ready TV Channel in Sri Lanka. It was reportedly launched with island-wide coverage from its inception. Presently, the channel is maintained by Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Pvt) Limited (ABC). ABC is listed as a subsidiary of Rayynor Silva Holdings (Pvt) Limited in the latter’s official website. Rayynor Silva Holdings (Pvt) Limited is owned by well-known media personality Rayynor Silva, whose brother Duminda Silva was a former Member of Parliament. On 11 October 2018 the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by Duminda Silva for the murder of former Member of Parliament, Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra. Meanwhile, Rayynor’s brother Vincent serves as the CEO of Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Pvt) Limited.
Featuring programmes from political discussions, news segments to current affairs and teledramas, Hiru TV broadcasts its content in the Sinhala language. Hiru TV is the only TV channel listed under the wings of ABC, while all the other media outlets under the company include radio stations, such as Hiru FM, Gold FM, Sun FM, Shaa FM, Sooriyan FM, and news sites, including Hirunews.lk and gossip.hirufm.lk.

Hiru TV is owned by Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Pvt) Limited, a member of Rayynor Silva Holdings (Pvt) Limited. The total shares of the company are owned by Skyline Pacific Real Estate (Pvt) Limited. Notably, Skyline Pacific Real Estate (Pvt) Limited is wholly owned by the Silva family, particularly by Chairperson Rayynor Silva (33.33%), his mother (33.33%) and father (33.33%).

The official website of Hiru TV serves as a news portal and as such, does not provide details regarding its organisational structure. Meanwhile, Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Pvt) Limited (ABC), the company which Hiru TV is maintained under, has a section on the founder, Rayynor Silva. However, other key personnel were not listed. The appointment of CEO Vincent Silva, Rayynor Silva’s brother, was confirmed upon directly contacting ABC via a phone call on 20 September 2018. It was further explained that Hiru TV does not have a designated Channel Head or Station Head. Instead, the Director of News and Director of Programmes report to the CEO. Information regarding the present shareholders and board of directors was gathered through the annual returns available at the Department of Registrar of Companies. Viewership data was obtained from the Kantar Lanka Market Research Bureau (LMRB) for the year 2017. While the Media Ownership Monitor research team reached out to Rayynor Silva Holdings (Pvt) Limited by formally requesting for the company’s information on 20 July 2018, the company did not respond to the aforementioned request.
